HONNE WARM ON A COLD NIGHT

Word has it that English electronic duo HONNE wrote their debut track in the dark, in under two hours. If that turns out to be a tall tale, who cares? The sample at the start of 'Warm On A Cold Night' happens to be singer Andy and producer James's housemate, rather than the gravel-toned (and entirely fictional) DJ Tommy Inglethorpe. That's cool enough. The pair have struck upon something rather special in their first sultry outing. Taking the kind of instant accessibility you get with a Disclosure single and instilling it with James Blake's shadowy, creeping aesthetics, HONNE balance a surprising funk edge expertly against sensitive, soulful lyrics; the vocal-to-die-for is just the cherry on the cake. It's out on 1 September via Super Recordings (early AlunaGeorge and Bondax).
